I’m here today with Tami Copeland of Four Little Bubbles.
PianoJenny: Tami, I know that the oval plaque is your most popular wedding item. Could you tell us a little more about it?
Tami: Yes, it’s about 19 inches, although I have done various sizes for it. People have the option to either purchase a stand to go along for display, or simply have it come with a sawtooth hanger in back.
Pianojenny: That sounds like it would make a really unique personalized wedding gift — you know, for people who want to give something different from the usual pots and mixers and blenders.
Tami: Yes, exactly! Lots of people purchase them for bridal or couple shower gifts and then the couple displays it on the gift table during the wedding. It makes a great centerpiece.
PianoJenny: So how did you get started in this business?
Tami: I saw a plaque in a magazine and thought, “Hmm … I can do that.” Then later, the wedding oval came about when I wanted to give something unique to a friend who was getting married, something that was perfect for the wall or an entry table.
PianoJenny: Do you create plaques and signs for events other than weddings?
Tami: Sure, check out this sign for a first birthday party.
PianoJenny: Very nice. Do you have any “funny wedding stories” to share with us?
Tami(laughs): Well, at my own wedding, my husband removed my garter with his teeth.
PianoJenny: Aack!!
Tami: I know! These days it’s fairly common, but back then it was almost unheard of. Embarrassed me to death. IN FRONT OF MY DADDY??
Tami: The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldan!
PianoJenny (smile fading): Oh dear! That’s actually one of my Most Despised Books Ever.
Tami (rolling her eyes): Oh, really? Well, at least my favorite book isn’t about some punk teenage boy with mental problems.
PianoJenny: You’re right, you’re totally right … books speak to people in different ways! And hey, you’re in great company — tons of people said they stayed up all night reading Outlander, they loved it so much. Now, my “stay up and read all night book” was Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson. It’s basically a psychological thriller version of the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie Fifty First Dates. This woman wakes up every morning with no memory of the last twenty years, and her husband tells her it’s because she was in a car accident twenty years ago. So she starts keeping a journal so that she can try to —
Tami: I thought this interview was supposed to be about me.
PianoJenny: Oh — I’m so sorry! I got a little carried away there. Ahem! What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?
Tami: I watch too much TV. But in my defense, I don’t just sit and watch it — I listen to the shows as background noise while I paint. During this past Christmas I was painting for 15-17 hours a day, so the TV really helps.
PianoJenny: Well, thanks for meeting with me, Tami.
