I’ve spent a lot of my life sharing music, in the classroom and at the piano. But I’ve always been a writer, too—even as a kid, I was typing up a manuscript and sending it off to a publisher. Apparently, one keyboard wasn’t enough for me.
Away from the piano, I like a good book, a knitting project, and a Seinfeld rerun. A trip to Disney World with my family is pretty high on the list, too. Here’s a little more about the things I love and the life around the music.
I have a Bachelor of Music degree, and the piano has been part of my life since childhood.
02 / THE TEACHER
A love of sharing it.
I taught music from pre-K through eighth grade in Fulton County Public Schools.
03 / YOUR OCCASION
Your people. Your songs.
From a wedding ceremony to a party at home, I love helping create an atmosphere that feels personal.
ON MY OWN PLAYLIST
A few favorites. A personal soundtrack.
These are some of the artists I love listening to. Your celebration, of course, is about your favorites.
Billy Joel
Tori Amos
Kate Bush
Joni Mitchell
Suzanne Vega
Fleetwood Mac
Another kind of storytelling.
JENNY, THE AUTHOR
Away from the piano. the notes.
I’ve always thought of myself as a writer, too. In fifth grade, I typed a manuscript and sent it to a publisher using the address in a Judy Blume book. They wrote me a kind, personal reply. I still have that letter.
Music finds its way into my writing, from fiction to practical advice for fellow musicians.
I’ve always known I was going to be a writer. I’ve always known that I was a writer.
I submitted my first typed manuscript to a book publisher (Dell Yearling) when I was in fifth grade. I got their address from a Judy Blume book that I owned. They sent me a very kind and personable response, which was well beyond what a reasonable response would have required. I still have the letter.
Book news, writing, and a little life behind the music.
Hi, I’m Jennifer McCoy Blaske, author and pianist. Thanks for visiting my site!
I’d love for you to join my mailing list.
What’s in it for you, you ask?
Well, you’d be among the first people to find out about new releases. Sometimes you get to do fun stuff like vote on a book cover or suggest a name for a character. You’ll hear about giveaways I’m having, and you get the opportunity to be on my Advance Reviewer team. (That means you get a copy of the book before it’s available to anybody else in exchange for an honest review.)
I’m also thinking about including links to some “deleted scenes” from books, although I haven’t tried it yet. It seems to work for DVDs though. I know I love that kind of stuff.
In addition, about every couple months I send out some photos and talk about an event I’ve played for (or spoken at).
